OTTIE DURENE BASS SCHWIERJOHN HATTIESBURG Ottie Durene Bass Schwierjohn, 72, died March 7, 2005, at Forrest General Hospital after a brief illness. A funeral mass was held March 11 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Lumberton with burial in the church cemetery. JERRY KENNETH SIMPSON NEW ALBANY Jerry Kenneth Simpson, 54, died March 10, 2005, at Pearl River County Nursing in Poplarville.

Services were held March 12 at White Funeral Home Chapel in Poplarville with the Rev. Glen Nace officiating. Burial was in Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Poplarville. Mr. Simpson was a member of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Woody E. Simpson; an infant daughter; a granddaughter, Brittney Nicole Holcomb and a stepdaughter, Rhonda Nell Martin. He is survived by four sons, Dwayne Martin of Seminary, Frankie Martin of Poplarville and Ken Martin and Lawrence BaradelL both of Lumberton; four daughters, Toie Davis and Shelia Treadway," both of Poplarville, Diedra Lyons of Lumberton and Sondra Goar of Oak Grove; his mother, Toie Simpson of New Albany; four sisters, Joan Garvin and Cheryl Pannell, both of New Albany, Joyce Herring of Coldwater and Janet Huggins of Memphis; three brothers, Tate Simpson and Tim Simpson, both of Atlanta, and Johnny Simpson of New Albany; 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. JIMFARRAR PURVIS Jim Farrar, 33, died March 8, 2005, at his home. Services were March 12 at Moore Funeral Chapel with the Rev.

Eugene Haden officiating. Burial was in Coaltown Cemetery. Survivors include his parents, Fred and Sue Farrar of Purvis and Johnny and Ellen Nobles of Purvis; one sister, Julie Fowler of two brothers, Jon Farrar of Purvis and Shane Farrar of Perry, Ga; a grandmother Maudie "Farrar of Purvis; two stepsisters, Lisa Dubose of Petal and LaRees Lott of Purvis; and a number of nieces and nephews. DIANNE SMITH MORRIS HATTIESBURG Dianne Smith Morris, 54, died March 8, 2005, at Regency Hospital in Hattiesburg. Services were held March 10 at Moore Funeral Chapel of Purvis with the Rev.

Bill Wright officiating. Burial was in Coaltown Cemetery in Purvis. For 24 years, Mrs. Morris worked as a dental assistant and was a past president of the Mississippi Dental Assistant Association. She taught Girls in Action and was a member of First Baptist Church in Purvis.

She was also a member of the Pine Belt Quilters and the VFW Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her Lewis and Janie Smith and a sister, Joyce Walley. Survivors include her husband, Mickey Morris of Purvis; three daughters, Shirley Lee Cook of Ocean Springs, Tonna Jane Dubose of Purvis and Wendy Morris Rasmussen of Baton Rouge, and six grandchildren. POPLARVILLE J.C. Spiers 61, died March 8, 2005, at his residence. Services were March 14 at Light House of Hope Assembly of God with the Rev. Lonnie O'Quinn officiating. Burial was in the Howard Family Cemetery.

Mr. Spiers was a lifelong resident of Poplarville and owned Poplarville Tire for 15 years. He was an avid golfer, a member of Lighthouse of Hope Assembly of God in Poplarville and was currently employed with Pearl River County as an operator. He was preceded in death by his father, J.C. Spiers Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Stewart Spiers of Poplarville; two sons, Michael Spiers and wife, Christa, of Laurel and Aubrey Rawls of Poplarville; a daughter, Angela Spiers of Poplarville; his mother, Rheba Dale Spiers of Poplarville; a sister, Rheba Spiers. Lee. of Poplarville; a Fletcher Ray Spiers of Poplarville and three grandchildren. JANNICE BURNETT RICHTON Jannice Burnett, 65, died March 7, 2005, at Wesley Medical Center. Services were March 20 at Jones Son Funeral Home in Richton with Bro.

Jimmy Geiger, Bro. Ken Ball and Bro. Howard Rogers officiating. Burial was in Freeman Cemetery. Mrs.

Burnett was a retired bookkeeper with the Richton Bank Trust for 28 years and a member of East Side Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Harold Timothy Burnett of Richton; three sons, Terry Walley of the Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest R. Housley; son, Elton R. Housley of Geneva, a daughter, Mary Frances Penton of Picayune, a sister, Annie Lou Bracey of Hattiesburg; four step-grandchildren and four step-greatgrandchildren.

NANCY G. HERRING HATTIESBURG Nancy C. Herring, 67, died Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Forrest General Hospital. Services were March 12 at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home with burial in the Clayton Family Cemetery in Lauderdale. Mrs.

Herring was retired from the University of Southern Mississippi and was a member of the Presbyterian faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, William L. Clayton Jr. and Alice Byrd Clayton. Survivors include her husband, Bobby Hugh Herring Sr.

of Hattiesburg; a son, Bobby Hugh Herring Jr. of Daphne, two daughters, Lisa Cannon of Diamondhead and Patricia Sullivan of Marietta, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. MELISSA KLEPPEN HEPHZIBAH, GA. Melissa Kleppen, formerly of Hattiesburg, died March 9, 2005, at her home. Services were March 13 at Moore Funeral Chapel in Hattiesburg with the Rev.

John Cochrell officiating. Burial was in Rawls Springs Cemetery. Mrs. Kleppen was a homemaker and a Baptist. Survivors include her husband, Doron Jay Kleppen of Hephzibah, her father, Kelly Polk of Atlanta, GA; a step-daughter, Elly Kleppen of Jacksonville, N.C.; a brother, Shone Polk of Purvis and her paternal grandmother, Venetia i Polk of Hattiesburg.

JOHN A. SELLERS PETAL John A. Sellers, 74, died March 10, 2005, at Forrest General Hospital. Graveside services were March 14 at Hillcrest Cemetery with the Rev. Dwayne Higgason officiating.

Mr. Sellers worked as a carpenter for Oden Construction and was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife, Shirley P. Sellers of Petal; two daughters, Cindy L. Higgason and Joan Woods, both off Petal; three sisters, Helen Woodard and Pat Odom of Petal and Nancy Myrick of Vancleave; one brother, Tommy Sellers of Petal and four grandchil- dren.

Pallbearers were Mike Higgason, James Woods, Matt Woods, Thomas CHARLES HINTON HARRIS SUMRALL Charles Hinton Harris, 86, died March 5, 2005 at his daughter's residence in Jacksonville, Fla. Services were March 11 at Rocky Branch Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Mr. Harris was a retired farmer and member of Rocky Branch Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lavada Harris.

Survivors include two daughters, Jeanette Courchene of Jacksonville, Fla. and Donna Harris of Sumrall; a sister-in-law, Vera Harris of Sumrall; two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. AMY JANE POWELL RAWLS SPRINGS Amy Jane Powell, 73, died March 10, 2005, at Wesley Medical Center. Services were March 12 at Hulett-Winstead Sumrall Chapel with burial in Byrd Town Cemetery in Sumrall. Mrs.

Powell was retired and a member of Rawls Springs Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, March Herrin and her parents, Elisha and Amy Jane Smith. Survivors include two sons, Kevin Herrin of Eugene, OR, and Timothy Herrin of Hattiesburg; a daughter, Ramona Derring of Hattiesburg; a sister, Agnes Gull of Milan, MI; three brothers, Melvin Smith of Laurel, Elisha Smith of Florida and Edwin Smith of Hattiesburg; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. LENA KELSEY HERMAN HATTIESBURG Lena Kelsey Herman, 86, died March 10, 2005, at her residence. Graveside services were March 13 4t B'Nai Israel Cemetery.

Mrs. Herman was owner of the Hattiesburg Beverage Company and a member of B'Nai Israel Congregation. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Herman; a son, Robert S. Herman of Kansas City, MO; a daughter, Carol Herman of Potomac, MD; and five grandchildren. ELLEN WILLIAMSON HOUSLEY PURVIS Ellen Williamson Housley, 89, died March 1, 2005, at Shady Oaks Nursing Home in Carriere.

Services were March 13 at Hulett-Winstead Purvis Chapel with burial in Pleasant Home Cemetery. Mrs. Housley was a retired seamstress with Movie Star Manufacturing and was a caregiver for the elderly. She was a member of services will be held at a later date. Mr.

Avera was born in Valdosta and attended school there through his high school years. He served in the Maritime, Service and was a retired manager for Fluor Company. Mr. Avera was preceded in death by his parents, James D. Avera and Minnie O.

McRanie. Survivors include three sisters, Myitis A. Howell of Valdosta, Martha A. Hixson of West Point, Calif, and Helen A. Choquette of Adel, a brother, Edwin M.

Avera of Petersburg, Va; a number of nieces and nephews, a special nephew, Bryan Thomas; special family members Grace Aikens and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Kersch of Hattiesburg. ULYSSES GRANT "PEANUT" NEWSOME HATTIESBURG Ulysses Grant "Peanut" Newsome, died March 7, 2005, at, Forrest General Hospital. Services were March 9 at Moore Funeral Chapel of Hattiesburg with the Rev.

Leonard Rev. Howard Anderson and Rev. Frank Fagen officiating. Burial was in Highland Cemetery. Mr.

Newsome was an auto mechanic for Burkett Radiator and a member of Central Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Jane Newsome of: Hattiesburg; a son, Douglass Newsome of Hattiesburg; a daughter, Sharon Newsome of Seminary; a sister, Mary Bullock of Oak Groove and seven, grandchildren LEO RITCHIE FLINT POPLARVILLE Leo Ritchie Flint, 84, died March 12, 2005, in Bogalusa, La. Services were March 16 at White Funeral Home Chapel in Poplarville with burial in the Holden Cemetery: A native of the White Sands Community, Mrs. Flint had resided there with her husband since they retired in 1978. She was retired from the University of South Alabama and was a member of White Sands Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bertha and Bruce Ritchie. survivors inciuae ner nusoana oi 59 years, Harold P. Flint of the White Sands Community; twin sons, Stephen B. Flint of Covington, La. and S.

Douglas Flint of White Sands Community; a sister, Tressie R. Scroggs of Baton Rouge and three grandchildren. She was born Sept. 26, 1932, in Smackover, Ark. She married CD.

Schwierjohn on Sept. 7, 1953, and they lived most of their married life in Luling, until 1982 when they retired to Lumberton. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Willie Robert Schwierjohn; her parents, W.R. Bass Sr. and Lillian Bell Bass.

Survivors include four children, Pamela S. Sattelmaier of Houston, Texas, Jeannine S. Patton of Wiggins, Joseph D. Schwierjohn of Lumberton and Richard D. Schwierjohn Sr.

of Lockport, and five grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery Fund. SELMA E. SIMS HATTIESBURG Selma E. Sims, 86, died March 5, 2005, at Bedford Care in Hattiesburg.

Services were March 8 at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home with burial in Highland Cemetery. Mrs. Sims was a member of Westover Baptist Church. Survivors include four daughters, Norma Ellen Smith of Cleveland, Patricia "Ann Young "xf Lumberton, Barbara1 Robinsori and Wanda S. Delmas, both of Hattiesburg; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

JACK DALTON DANIEL Bay St Louis Dr. Jack Dalton Daniel, 82, formerly of Hattiesburg, died March 7, 2005, at Hancock County Medical Center in Bay St Louisl Dr. Daniel was a medical doctor specializing in urology.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sammie Smith Daniel. WCC is celebrating its Jubilee, a year long celebration of the 1954 anniversary of the name change from Mississippi Woman's College to William Carey College, the same year co-educational status was granted. The Jubilee Celebration features a series of events planned for the 2004 2005 school year centered around the theme "Celebrating His Glorious Design," words taken from a 1792 writing by the missionary Carey. Lai, as he is called, is a native of Mizoram, a predominantly Christian state in northeast India. An ordained minister in the Mizoram Presbyterian Church, Lai earned a bachelor degree at Mizoram University, a master of art degree at Gauhati University, a master of philosophy at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi; and a doctoral degree at Norm Eastern Hill University.
