Whicher J-Garrard of Petal; 18 grandchildren of Serving South Mississippi Since 1910 Kennebunk, Maine; numerous TM SELECTED Independent i SBA loan deadline extended until Jan. 11, 2006 or ji jg Member by Invitation miii. 1 205 vl-yii- Hattiesburg S82-1S71 MOOSE FUNERAL SERVICES, INC. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has announced that the deadline to file low-interest disaster loan applications for physical damages as a result of Hurricane Katrina has been extended until January 11, 2006.

"Extending the deadline will allow those who have not yet completed their application to have additional time to apply for assistance," said Frank Skaggs, director of SBA Field Operations Center East SBA encourages everyone who receives an SBA application to complete and return it as soon as possible, regardless of the status of their Federal Emergency Management agency (FEMA) or insurance claims. "Additionally, SBA may refer individuals for whom a loan is not appropriate to the FEMA Individuals and Households (Grant) Program, but without a completed application, we can not make that referral. That could mean some people may be denying themselves additional assistance that may be readily available," Skaggs added. Funds from SBA disaster loans may be used to cover the amount of the deductible for hurricane victims who have insurance and may cover some or all of the uninsured losses for victims who do not have insurance. Disaster victims with insurance should not wait for their insurance settlement before applying to the SBA.

If they do not know how much of their loss will be covered by insurance or other sources, the SBA will consider making a loan for the full amount of the loss, up to their loan limits, providing the borrower agrees insurance proceeds will be used to reduce the amount of the SBA loan. By this method, the disaster victim's final loan balance will represent only uninsured or otherwise uncompensated losses. SBA low-interest disaster loans are available to qualified renters, homeowners, landlords, business owners, and non-profit organizations that suffered damage or loss due to the disaster. Interest rates can be as low as 2.687 percent for homeowners and renters and 4.000 percent for businesses. Loan terms on all loans can be as long as 30 years.

Actual loan amounts and terms are set by the SBA and are based on each applicant's financial condition. The SBA also has mitigation funds available to many of the disaster victims having already been approved for a low-interest disaster loan. The SBA mitigation funds are designed to help borrowers fund protective measures to prevent damages from recurring in future disasters of the same kind. To help victims fund protective measures, borrowers may request an increase up to 20 percent of their approved physical loan amount to help pay for their mitigation measures. The deadline to return applications for physical damage is Jan.

11, 2006; the deadline to return economic injury applications is May 29, 2006. 1016 W.
